4 years ago, I underwent the same kind of procedure at the same god-forsaken-only-army-ppl-hang-ard place at around this time of the year too. Yup, no prizes for guessing, I’m talking about National Service Enlistment Exercise, except that this time, it’s my bro’s turn.
It’s actually quite refreshing (and weird too!) to attend the same enlistment exercise from a different perspective (perspective of a visitor NOW compared to that of an enlistee 4 years ago). It’s like using a Time Turner (Refer to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Askaban) to return to 17 Jan 4 years ago. But what’s different this time is that, you won’t feel butterflies flying around in your tummy, you dun need to be scared like “Oh no, if I dun say the oath correctly as instructed, what punishment will I get?” and you dun need to greet ANYONE. How marvellous.
Nothing much to say about the whole tour ard the place, except that I must say they have given the recruits more new stuff than we had 4 years ago. These are the changes that I could remember:
- Dirty green duffel bag (for the girls who dunno, it looks like a corpse bag =P) became an elegant, black sports bag with rollers (how lucky!)
- Disgusting poncho became a much more comfortable-looking and stylish waterproof camouflage jacket
- And they added a new transparent squirt bottle to the list!
I’m sure there were more, just that I couldn’t remember. =P And I must say the speech by the CO was really BORING to the max. I fell asleep and awoke like so many times. Wonder HOW I even managed to keep awake during the same speech 4 years ago. Must have been the adrenaline running in my body that kept me awake. =P
Anyway, dunno if it’s coincidental or what, my brother was also enlisted into a “warrant” company. If you were thinking what was so special about that, well, there are only TWO “warrant” companies in BMTC School 2. =) The difference is that my brother is in Leopard company and I was from the other.
Ok lah, I think this entry is already quite long liao… At least long enough to bore the girls to death. =) Get ready for another night call tomolo!!! Woohoo!
